The Murmansk region is getting into new 2010 with several promising expectations for local improvements.

First of all, the end of 2010 is the deadline for taking an investment decision on Shtokman. Secondly, Azimuth Hotel is expected to finally start a reconstruction process to be finished in 2011. Not the least important is the start of construction of a new sea port on the western part of the Kola Bay. The reconstruction works will also start for the Murmansk harbour station.

According to the Murmansk Governor, 2010 will work on the special economic zone for Teriberka and Murmansk port. Besides, there are plans for development of tourist areas and an industrial park in Alakurtti.

The local citizens, besides, look forward to getting a perinatal centre (the medical-care centre for the pregnant and the new-born). The centre is to open in early 2010.

January 1 2010 introduces higher minimum wages of about 8000 RUB for the citizens of Murmansk thus getting the highest paid minimum in the North-West of Russia.

March 14, Murmansk municipalities will take an election of the deputies.

In 2010, Arctic Barents Race, the unique dog-sledge race will start in Murmansk and go further to Roros through all Scandinavian countries.
