Aeroflot Nord stopped Murmansk-Tromso flights
2009-07-17
15 July Aeroflot Nord temporarily closed down their scheduled flights
The European air authorities were presumably mislead by the Statement of Rosaviatsia (Russian federal agency on air transport). The Statement as of 03.06.2009 reads the following: “Aeroflot Nord is to restrict its charter international flights starting 15.06.2009”.
The administration of Aeroflot Nord finds this statement irrelevant when it comes to Murmansk – Tromso connection. The Statement does not cover regular (not charter) flights, and secondly it means to restrict new flight routes that were about to get introduced without closing down the current ones.
The passengers who bought tickets were reimbursed of the ticket fees and were offered to take different routes.
Presently, the dispute is negotiated between the both parties. The deputy head of Rosaviatsia sent a petition to European air authorities to clarify the situation on behalf of the Russian authorities.
The flight is supported by the Governors of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions. It has been operational for 15 years. There travelled 16053 passengers in 2008. Aeroflot Nord plans to extend the flight till Komi republic.
