Safety Supervisor, StatoilHydro, Canada
Description:
Reporting to the Superintendent, Leismer Plant, the Safety Supervisor will be responsible for providing coordination between various activities and groups on site to ensure that our shared goal of zero harm is met. This position provides HSE expertise to the growing Operations organization and will take a leadership position in identifying and implementing solutions to improve our HSE performance.
The initial emphasis will be on safety during construction and drilling activities. The scope of responsibilities will expand as we move through start up and into operations. Assistance will be required to embed HSE principles and best practices into the on-going operations. In time, direct reports will be hired to support the Safety Supervisor who will oversee these positions.
This is a field based position with a 7 days on/7 days off rotation or a 4 days on/3 days off rotation. Time will be spent working in Calgary with the Corporate HSE staff.
Job description
The individual will be the StatoilHydro Canada point contact on site for health and safety issues. The individual’s success is critical to the company’s success in this operating area
The position will require interfacing with representatives of all of the various projects/activities and will provide coordination assistance when required. The individual will need to determine the appropriate frequency of contact
The individual will be in the Operations organization in part to reflect the fact that ultimately Operations are the owners of the site. The individual will also assist in embedding safety principles into Operations. As the various projects go through commissioning and start up, there will be more day to day contact with the Operations teams
Qualifications
A solid technical background with a minimum of 8-10 years of health and safety experience (including a working knowledge of: regulations, codes, behaviour based approaches to safety management and auditing techniques
A range of hands-on experience with a minimum of 5 years experience in the upstream O&G industry which ideally should include past positions in: drilling, completions, construction, plant start-up and plant operations
The ability to work with different stakeholders and bring them together to achieve a common goal
The ability and maturity to identify problem areas, raise the issues to the appropriate individuals and help indentify and implement solutions
An interest in and knowledge of environmental issues and community engagement issues would be an asset
The ability to work independently in an unstructured environment
